Vorteile

i really was amazed when i began working with jira,it has alot and i mean alot of features.
As a developer the most important for me was Ajile boards and how it's effective in sprint planning and working with scrum.
also bug reporting and fixing became easy,and also you can make integrations with many apps and tools like slack ,github and many more.
how over due to so much features you might get lost in the beginning,
if you don't know where to start.
but never the less ,i highly recommend it for any one in the tech field specially developers and busines people.

the UX is not very appealing and could use more work.

Jira is a one stop shop for tracking all issues we're working on, from bugs and tasks, to users stories and epics. The tool can be customised lots so can easily be set up to suit your team's needs - different fields, workflows etc. It's been a crucial part of ensuring that all requirements are captured, not lost and that our development, testing and release activity is smoothly managed.

Confluence is a great part of Jira too and has replaced clunky document management on cloud based storage solutions or, even worse, someone's desktop..

Nachteile

I feel that Jira is not the most user friendly. It took a long time to become really comfortable with it. There are a fair few inconsistencies throughout the system too - e.g. releases can be called releases, versions, fix versions... little things like this just make it a bit harder to adopt.

While Jira is a reasonably complete solution, my team still finds themselves reverting to spreadsheets and capturing info outside of Jira from time to time.

Vorteile

Jira has made the life of an agile team much easier, managing tasks/spikes/user stories according to the necessary workflow defined by each team. It is adaptable to both scrum and kanban and other agile methodologies.

Nachteile

I would love to have an interactive tutorial for new members and for the backlog to be visible in kanban board

I'm currently trying to work with our developers to integrate Azure DevOps (where the code is housed) to JIRA in order to track code and link code with JIRA stories that are worked on. The apps to do this in the JIRA app store aren't great and we're encountering more issues than we expected. It seems as though JIRA integrates with a (soon-to-be) outdated version (might be using the wrong words) of Azure DevOps that my team no longer uses.

Though it's A very useful and easy to use and riched with features but scrum methodology I think Azure devops board is far better in sprint management

As an SDLC management tool it excels. It's designed from the ground up for tracking user stories, tasks, epics, sprints, etc. in large organizations. It is excellent for cross functional team collaboration and really shines in a mature environment that doesn't change frequently or quickly. It is continuously improving and it is obvious that the JIRA team is very proactive and dedicated to staying ahead of the competition in features and services.

Nachteile

It is overkill for smaller teams or products that are very early in their life. When projects and teams are very dynamic, Jira projects become bloated, cumbersome, and fragmented. This product really is suited for larger, mature organizations that already have strong procedural discipline and rather monolithic approval/decision making. I know it's supporting agile methodology but really it's rigidness is more aligned with waterfall type management.

Vorteile

Gives a real granular approach and accountability to your work. It allows for everything you do to be tasked up, with time frames associated. Helps with project planning, and giving time estimates for deadlines. It also allows us to early on see if a project is going to slip, if any early tasks slip.
It has given our company a much better agile approach to development.

Nachteile

The software isnt intuitive, and relatively feature rich, making it complex to understand how to use it to its full potential.
We have some issues, which seem to create a lot of admin work, such as once a task is done, there is no easy way to put that task into review. The best way, is close the ticket, make a new ticket that is review and assign it to someone, which will need to go into the next week sprint to not affect sprint stats.
Also no ability to assign multiple people to a ticket, such as a review for 3 people to look at. You need either 3 seperate tickets, or 1 master ticket and 3 sub tickets (not ideal if one person doesn't complete it within the sprint, as it pushes everyone into +1 week late).

It's intuitive and easy to used. Drag and drop make it easy to update the tasks state, and the global view shows the state of the project and the tasks at a glance.

Nachteile

It can be complicated to used for some more advanced tasks.

You are able to circle through different boards depending on your project which opens up the door for supporting a good number of projects while on the same web app. There are many helpful features to each "Jira" you open in order to identify its importance, priority and who is responsible for tracking and solving that "Jira".

Nachteile

The cons are down to accessibility, ease of use, and readability. Many features that should be automatically found such as easier Advanced filter access when searching, or viewing boards more easier, ability to click save instead of saving automatically which send unnecessary notifications to users. Cannot place notifications on specific projects when new jiras are created.

The feature of Open DevOps that I enjoyed the most was its versatility. It gave me the freedom to adapt and adjust my infrastructure to meet my needs while enabling me to swiftly design, deploy, and manage cloud-based applications. Because to Open DevOps' open source nature, I had access to and control over the platform's source code, which allowed me to adapt it to my unique requirements. The platform also offers a vast selection of tools and services to facilitate and speed up development and operations. In conclusion, Open DevOps offers a practical and successful method for creating, deploying, and managing cloud-based applications.

Nachteile

It was a little tough for me to browse and the interface was a little perplexing. The resources and choices I required to handle my projects were hard to come by. I also thought the pricing structure was a little difficult to understand and a bit confusing.

We're a marketing team but use scrum development rules applied to marketing and JIRA has been an amazing, customizable tool for that. Automating workflows has been really powerful. Tracking points has made us far more efficient than we otherwise would be. It's greatest strength translates into it's greatest weakness. When you pack so much power and methodology into one tool it becomes a much more niche product built for specific people and can seem difficult to use. But, that's what we love about it. One you learn it, it changes the game.

Nachteile

In order to use JIRA you need someone or multiple people that really understand agile development and scrum to make it work. Otherwise, you won't be able to leverage it's power.

Vorteile

Jira makes it easy to collaborate within the team and with the clients. We can monitor and keep a track of our work. Also, its integrations with 3rd party apps are helpful.

It is generally a good app, but it lacks the most basic feature, requiring me to use a laptop instead. The app would function for me if there were a copy issue URL button like the one next to the ticket number on the web version. Due to my habit of sending and referencing tickets across Slack, the lack of the ability to copy the URL to the clipboard makes this app nearly useless for about 90% of my needs.

Vorteile

It is easy to customize your own team board for managing the user stories/bugs during a Sprint. It helps to keep the development team and Product team on the same page about the progress of the sprint. It is easy for the product team to view the history of a ticket and tag people in their comments if they have any update or questions. The flow of ticket and child-tasks across the board from "To-Do" to "Done" is very easy. You can create your own dashboard and offers built-in bar graphs or pie chart demonstration. The mobile version is smooth to use as well. Defect management is very easy. It's integration with TestRail, Confluence, Octopus and TeamCity works like a charm for the need of my project.

Nachteile

The UI gets a bit overwhelmed because it tries to display all your columns in a single landscape view. Accessing an old completed story or a closed story can be a pain.

You have the ability to implement many extra plugins that have been designed specifically for JIRA. There are a lot of customizations you can make within the interface without the need for addtional plugins as well.

Nachteile

There is a lot of manual setup required. A lot of times, it seems like you need to create multiple pieces within the console in order to get something working properly. When I would set up new boards and categories, I found myself having to redo my work on a few occasions because I would miss a setup when setting up certain references.

The product simplifies the ability to attach design comps through the Envision plugin. There's not a lot of software that can do this seamlessly to coordinate between managers and developers.

Nachteile

Unfortunately this software has a very granular experience. This can be great for developers, but the many steps in the process of collaboration and completion can provide a steep learning curve to new project managers.

This is amazing for when working with other developers and designers. We are able to instantly add any bugs necessary for our developers to handle and get real time updates. The ability to provide feedback has also been awesome for tracking any comments and or suggestions within our team and remote workers.

Nachteile

The software doesn't have the most mobile friendly app. It seems to run a bit differently on mobile so you would have to be willing to do everything on desktop preferably. In addition, you are limited in the file upload option which can be hard and tedious.

Jira offers a great task management for the team with a nice and clean visibility. The project flow is very easy to manage and see what is done and what is left to do.

Nachteile

At the beginning it can be a lot hard to navigate and learn the flows, sometimes there is too much information on screen.

Jira has a clean, updated interface with powerful issue tracking features for managers, team leads, and developers. Features I like the most are the advanced issue search, integration with Confluence, easy navigation, quickly create new tickets and build sub-tasks, epics, etc. out of them. Our management and team leads like all the labels, components, and other content management features of the tools. If used correctly by developers, JIRA makes it easy to trace-down issues, and understand decisions made in the code. You can notify other users of issues with easy "@username" in the comments.

Nachteile

Formatting text can be a little tricky. Kanban boards don't come for free for all users. Sometimes it's slow in updating tickets (granted that could be our server it's hosted on...).

TONS of features. My team and I use this to manage our tasks for our projects. It’s helped us keep our tasks oraganized. We use the kanban board feature to move cards from one column to the next. Also have integrated it with concourse and slack to automatically pick up the ticket title from the done column to generate a list of done tasks and post them to Slack.

Nachteile

TONS of features. There’s so many features that it’s a bit overwhelming. Also some parts of the app can be glitchy. Not sure if the team is constantly pushing updates to the UI but sometimes I have to search for certain fields because it’s not in the same spot that I last saw it.

I like that this integrates well with github for pull requests and provides so many convenient ways to visually display tasks and projects and keep track of it all. The search function is very helpful as well.

Editing workflows is very difficult when you need to add a new status. The help articles describe a very intuitive method for doing this, but the link they describe is not found as easily as the article says, and I struggle with fine-tuning the workflows that were set up by a predecessor.

Jira handles almost everything in an agile environment, including backlog, to maintain version in bugs. This tool is very helpful when working in an agile project, where stories and bugs can be assigned to multiple people, comment with tagging users, giving reactions in comments are all useful features.

In every ticket, saving the history of the ticket is very important where auditing can be carried out as to what happened to the specified ticket.

Nachteile

Editing confluence pages has become very slow, where sometimes the page needs to be refreshed in order to get it functioning. The User Interface in working and adding components to wiki documents is not straight forward. Sometimes, we need to search on how to add certain segments on wiki to know how to use confluence on Jira.

JIRA was an essential tool for our development team. It allowed them to show, in a very clear way, where they were along the development cycle for our products. It also enabled management to be able to diagnose roadblocks and other issues, showing full visibility into what our devs were doing, so that any adjustments could be communicated easily to the developers.

I really had no problems with this software. It had all the features we wanted, worked as advertised, and achieved everything we wanted it to achieve.

JIRA is great for managing a high volume of issues and tickets. As a project manager, I appreciate the ability to create numerous filters and dashboards to keep track of issues at a high level. I also appreciated that whenever a new idea or workflow need arose, it was more than likely possible with the right configuration or add-on.

Nachteile

There are times when I wish the platform were simpler and had fewer configuration options. At times I was paralyzed by how to proceed with a workflow update because the control is so granular. That may be a less attractive aspect for me, but I'm sure others love the granular control.

The software bring on so many functionalities and capabilities to track not only the progress of different teams but also the possibility to add custom filters that later on can be used to see the progress, impact and velocity of teams. The customisation is great. And recently the new UI has made the UX perfect

Some options are kind of hidden and sometimes you can mess up not really knowing where to hit for specific data. It is easy to access a board and see tasks progress but later on to see historical charts, things can be more comlex

After trying quite a lot of progress tracking apps for teams this is the one I like the most. The design is really intuitive. And there's a lot of customizing options and ways to automate management processes.

- I wish there was a better integration with editors such as VIM mode , or support to edit JIRA pages directly from Emacs.
- Mobile app could be improved to take hand drawing and clean up pictures from dirty whiteboard
- Needs a distraction free writing mode for Wiki pages.

It permits to write backlog for a project, then we can split it to sprints containing tasks. A task can be dragged to a different column state according to its progression, so that the team can have visibility about the task.

Tracking software development would be impossible without great search. Jira excels in search. Usually, I can find the tickets I'm looking for by just entering in a few keywords. But when that doesn't narrow it down enough, the advances search capabilities are out of this world.

The thing that frustrates me the most about this software is the way it uses two different rich text editors—one for creating tickets, and one for editing tickets—and formatting between the two is not consistent.

The Projects can be easily created, maintained and notified to the administrator and the groups about the status. One small update to the ticket reaches to the entire stake holders on the project. It reduces pain to update each one individually about my status

The Tool can be more interactive. For a Digital marketing guy like me, I have multiple tasks in a day, and recurring tasks too. When ever I update my tickets for the project, it always goes beyond 100%.

A great tool for Agile development. We are using it for production deliveries and I personally like it. Tracking ongoing developing, deliveries and going back to previous release, really awesome. Inbuilt feature to export items in excel so you can filter out and send to team membres. The one I really like is assignment. When a bug is assigned, all the parties are notified with all the udpates. this makes everyone to be on same page without any chain email and meetings.

Nachteile

The search feature in JIRA itself is not good. I personally have to type something in search field to bring search window and then I modify it. i was expecting dropdown based filtering on search but it doesn't have. Many configuration can lead to ovewhelming. Navigating around UI is something tricky and you need to know where exactly it is.

Jira has a great and simple user interface to manage your daily scrum or agile activities! With many options to tailor the software integration to your business needs, you have an all-in-one workflow management system and ticket tracking system.
I also like the fact that Jira has the ability to have a 100 foot view of the work being done in the organization and at the same time have a 100,000 foot view of the work!
Besides project management, Jira is also known for its bug tracking functionality. That is one of the many reasons why this tool is popular with software development teams.

Nachteile

I don't think it's great that Jira roles aren't shared across the company. There may be some standard source code that one organization has that another wants to use, and it is unfortunate that there is no integration between the software developer code of two different organizations.

There are tons of ways to customize the projects and the ways of working with tasks; tons of plugins and add-ons that make it suitable to a wide range of project teams. Once it has been configured, it works wonderfully well - consistently, reliably and with little effort to maintain it.

Nachteile

Sometimes it is difficult to find exactly how to make some kind of configuration happen. Especially where it comes to user accesses and rights and project and board configuration. It is immensely powerful, but so difficult to do well if I do it once in a few years (and the admin interface has changed meanwhile).

Also, somehow, it has never been easy for me to find relevant boards in Jira for me, I don't know if it is a problem of configuration (I have mostly just bookmarked specific URLs in my browser as a workaround).

Rich UI experience gives you an enhanced experience for bug tracking.
The proper hierarchy for taking any issue so that every member can keep track the ongoing issue.
We can comment on the issues that can be further discussed among other team members.
We are using it as a project management tool for some of our projects also. that also quite helpful.

Nachteile

There is some issue with the new version of JIRA, it is a bit slow sometimes not responsive.
Sometimes it makes me feel like confused because of a lot of functionality given there which affects the actual work(bug tracking) and leads to slowness.

It is purpose built for managing software development. For that it it very well suited from stories to bug fixes in the life cycle. In devops, there are great integrations and strong capabilities for stand-up, deployment, upgrades, and changes in operations tied to triggerable events from JIRA. In an ops environment JIRA is a workable tool, but is not ideal. That said it may be worth compromising to have a single tool across the entire organization.

Nachteile

While JIRA is the go to tool for dev and devops, it is weak in an operations environment. Time tracking and assignment of tasks are highly manual. Queue view are customizeable, but difficult to manage at scale. Analytics are very very poor. I tried exporting data for analytics on DOMO. While I could get that to work, the process remained highly manual and therefore not a workable dashboard environment. JIRA tools, widgets, and dashboards are reasonably customizable, but again not purpose built for ops. For example, time tracking is not start/stop/context driven.

JIRA has helped use organized our tasks/bugs and projects for many of our clients. For it's cost the benefit to our business has been amazing. We are much more organized internally now and can communicate to clients about the status of a ticket without having to contact the developer every time.

Nachteile

JIRA is quite complex and features rich. There is a tough learning curve for any features beyond the basics. It took a lot of time and patience to get things set up.

Vorteile

Very easy and intuitive to use, with high level of customization for project workflow and information fields. As part of the Atlassian suite, the integration with other services such as Confluence makes reporting very clean and easy.

Nachteile

Not a fan of working with JIRA on mobile. Also, for simpler projects, all the features may not be necessary and could be intimidating.

Jira basically allows for our entire programming lifecycle to be documented, monitored and reviewed.
We did not have any issue with a desired functionality that could not be achieved through it.

Setting up the whole process is relatively complex and time consuming, but that depends on each organization's process. It took us a while to get it right though and track our cycle efficiently and with the right permissions for everyone.
Search is not great unless you actually use custom filters with boolean variables.

Vorteile

JIRA tickets are easy to follow and it’s not clunky like r”Remedy or Siebel. The ability to integrate with GitHub Crucible etc is also nice.

Nachteile

Enabling some plugins causes performance issues in our system and Atlassian wasn’t able to help us get root cause. I wish you could comment to specific comments like in Microsoft Teams within a JIRA ticket.

Once a ticket is created, it is easy to find, navigate, and alter the tickets as necessary. It is fairly intuitive in regards to how it operates.

Nachteile

The software seems to run slow. Perhaps that is based on how many tickets or users are currently accessing the software. However, I do notice a slow down at times, while trying to access tickets.

Jira is becomming more and more popular.
