Every day I learn something new about the software and I'm always blown away but the capabilities. I dont know that I can pick out one thing I like most although a big one is how it allows me to take reports that to refresh previously would take quite a fair length of time but now that I have built the same reports in Business Objects I have automated most, if not all, of them. And many are even emailed to me at a time which I've scheduled so now that the reports are built, all I do is nothing. Just wait for them to be sent to my email inbox.

I wish there was an easy way to have my scheduled reports send to SharePoint (if there is a way please let me know);

I have worked as an SAP Consultant so I know the importance of reporting for clients. SAP business objects are the best way to quickly design and integrate reporting tools with SAP source systems.

Nachteile

For an end user, there is limited flexibility when it comes to modifying reports once deployed. I would like some more customization options.

BusinessObjects came up with a fantastic way to interact with data back in the day. The Universe concept is still a great way to translate the technical terms in the underlying systems into business language.

Sadly BusinessObjects innovation has slowed since the SAP acquisition and the product has been overtaken by the likes of Tableau and Qlik, who provide easier to use options that require a lot less time to get up and running.

Much faster than manual queries and data pulls from our internal software
The ability to build off of a saved query expedites all future queries
Features including reoccurring queries and running queries in the background so it does not interfere with your current work

Nachteile

There is a learning curve to understand how to use the queries, so there is some training involved
Some of the "result objects" do not pull data but that may be our data sources, not the program itself

BusinessObjects is great for data analysis and reporting about data. You can make a template for a specific report and trust that when someone needs this report, it is generated exactly how you defined it.
Also you can analyze your data, see trends and report on them.

It's not really point-and-click; you need some experience to use it. But given the fact that many software vendors prefer BusinessObjects must mean something for its quality.

I use SAP solutions to create dashboards and visual reports.
What I like in SAP BO, that we can create powerful and innovative presentations - from 0 to our vision.
I use many of all great options like:
- maps
- charts
- gauges
- sliders.
Except that, it's possible to add external data and visual elements like shetchnotes and files from other formats.
What is very important, reports are interactive, so we can create what-if analysis in easy way, with our vision in out minds. Dashboards can be connnected to external data sources like Excel or databases.

Nachteile

It would be great to be able to work more without specific informatics knowledge. It would be great to see more options to share final work with others.

This is an Awesome platform to store information. It's easy to use and straightforward, and has information displayed very clearly which helps save lots of time when analyzing information.

This program often crashes or runs very slowly. Its frustrating at times because as we're trying the work, often times i cannot meet my objectives because the client becomes impatient and leaves.

Sometimes finding a field can be difficult if you are not sure what exactly you are looking for. With time, this gets easier.

Business Objects has a great number of features. Report scheduling, dashboarding, and data file exports were some of the major features I used in this package.

Version upgrades are extremely difficult to perform without consulting. Troubleshooting messages tend to be cryptic which makes troubleshooting a laborious and tedious process.

Business Objects is one of the most efficient reporting software out there. It is fast, and its UI design makes use of any knowledge use the tool. It has its own server and file management tool which make using this software more productive.

Nachteile

To report using business objects, you have to have universes those are needed to be developed by your designers. There is a lack of functionality where the user can directly query off from SQL tables. The updates and patches those are rolled out by SAP are very slow.

The system is able to interface and pull data from a very wide variety of data sources once configured and setup. The reports that come out from the system are very customization and the end users seem able to learn to write them fairly easily.

Nachteile

The amount of updates and complications of installing, configuring and getting the servers up and running can be time consuming. Updates are also a very tedious process ... these are all normal with a software package this large. The most end-user complaint would be the size of the PDF files, they can be quite large depending on the contents of the reports, which can quickly fill up an inbox.

Its best feature, in my opinion, is the ease of building reports through its drag and drop interface. We have several data universes which we use to generate the reports. Business Objects makes it quite easy to manipulate the data fields and build professional looking reports.

Nachteile

My least favorite thing about this product would have to be the lack of download capability in more current versions of Excel. Currently, Business Objects only downloads in Excel 2007 format, which can sometimes complicate pulling millions of rows of data into one spreadsheet. Office 2010 and 2013 are capable of handling millions of rows of data, but B.O. cannot deliver it into those new formats.

It allows us to provide most of the necessary information to other departments without giving away too much of the minor details. This allows us to provide the tools needed for every day requests.

The best part was the robust enterprise nature of the system. Data quality is controlled centrally by IT and processes and users always know that the data they are getting is good quality and usable. It becomes a single source of truth

This product is definitely not user friendly. Takes a lot of IT support to get up and running and often if changes are to be made to existing reports also IT needs to get involved. Plus its very pricey and not meant for smaller businesses

The best part of SAP Business Objects is it's powerful suite of tools. You can run Analysis for Office for many end users and they are able to self serve whatever they need. You can build out powerful storyboards with Lumira. You can also create standardized formatted reporting with Crystal Reports. That doesn't even touch on Design Studio, which can also be a powerful tool.

Nachteile

Some of the programs are still not quite as bug free as you would expect from a vendor like SAP. I feel like we still have too many freezes, crashes, and unexplained behavior. However, I will say that SAP is very quick to respond and they are a great vendor to work with.

Very powerful business intelligence engine behind the scenes, allowing for multi-dimensional querying. This allowed our business to gather deep insights that would have been hard to materialize manually.

Error messages are often hard to decipher, in terms of actionable next steps to resolve. Some better instructions during error cases would go a long way.

SAP BusinessObjects allows the company to integrate with external systems, such as SIMS Claims and Microsoft Office and combine data from these for business analytics and reporting functions. There is a drag-and-drop interface which allows you to create custom reports using the perimeters you want.

Nachteile

The drag-and-drop interface is sometimes difficult to use especially when working with a large amount of data. Once you use this program more, it seems to get easier to use.

Simple way how to organize and manage access rights.
Perfect for dashboard customization, its even possible to add some html code and thus custom designs and outputs.

The data universes takes some time to load.
It takes time for system end users to learn how to create and format their ad-hoc reports.

The best thing about SAP in our institution is that it is extremely easy to get data from the system as well as doing you own management applications, from having a data sheet about the number of students to ask for annual leave.

There have been some weird quarks in BO 4.0. Changes that we’ve made to a report will work one day and not the next. It’s not very friendly for someone who wants to do ad hoc analytical reporting.

I dislike the fact that sometimes the tool just fails to send the report for no apparent reason. Also you can receive timeouts on developing part when you want to save you're work.

We use many modules of SAP application within the company. The deficiencies of these modules may be in the first place or may not meet the requirements of the company. As the module is privatized, it adapts to the structure of the company and all problems are eliminated.

It have been improved very much since i used it from version 3.1 to the last version 4.2, always creating new features and new integration with new tools, its very complete and fast, also can be good modeled from final user, make your own reports, customize it, and share it, its really works good, can be integrated with sap erp sap bw, sap bpc, it has many purposes.

SAP BO becomes a bit slow when its a high amount of data for processing, if you have to create a big data report, its heavy to create it.

It's highly scalable and flexible. We use it to track participants in youth serving agencies. We use it to connect many databases together. It's the best tool we've found in almost 20 years.

The only drawback is not the software itself, but rather training. We use it in a fairly non-traditional way, but I struggle to find training that is appropriate for our needs.

In my opinion, not all SAP BO offerings are equal, but several are very useful. The offerings we have chosen to utilize will, without doubt, help us to transform our business.

The offerings I find most useful for helping our field personnel and leadership get a better understanding of their environment are Lumira, Crystal Reports, Information Design Tool and HANA Studio. The Implementation of HANA is critical for reaching the next level of performance as well.

SAP has very good customer service and the free education and learning resources are very useful.

As with any new product there are bugs and errors. I have been frustrated at times with the newer software and sometimes even the more mature software can be frustrating.
