Biggest pro is that it is NOT QuickBooks online. I am still amazed that Intuit put out a product called "accounting software"... but dumbed it down so that it is barely that. I try to keep all my clients on a desktop version, as it is so preferable to me, especially when t comes to reporting, credit memos and vendor credits.

The only con is that it has now gone to an annual subscription fee - and a high one at that! And the threats it will be sunsetted keep coming. I sure hope not. The day Intuit discontinues their desktop products is the day I move my clients to Sage and NetSuite. I will NOT be moving them to that piece of crap "accounting" software QBO. No "accounting software" uses terms like "who owes you" for AR and "what you owe" for AP! If you don't know those 2 terms - don't use an "accounting" software!

I don't like how when you type a client name into the client search bar, that it automatically does not go to the client, you have to click the search button.

I could figure out almost everything about it. I liked access to multiple windows open so that I could go between tasks/reports quickly. I was very familiar with this project having used it on and off for 20 years. I liked customizing reports.

Importing credit card data was frustrating at times. The functionality was ok, though problematic and times. I could work around it.

Capturing, tracking and reporting donor data is very challenging and you have to understand how QB tracks "customers" activity. Once captured, trying to extract that data is tricky. Somethings are easier to just export to excel and reorganize the way you'd like. QB is not set up to be a Fund Accounting system and trying to use it as one requires some detailed accounting / QB knowledge. It can be done, it just requires a lot of thought and execution. Plus, every 3-4 years, Intuit will try to force you to upgrade and they really want to get you into an on-line product or anything that is subscription based. Look for the desktop product "purchase" to go away.

The biggest benefit of the desktop application, versus the online application, is control over the state of the action being taken at any given point in time. There remain issues with activities being worked on in the event of connectivity issues, or accidental use of the browser "back" button, etc. These issues are removed withn the implementation of the desktop version.

It manages all of our company files, the back up process is easy, allows for payroll, includes tax updates

The biggest con with QuickBooks Desktop Premier is the constant updating that is required. Even though you set the updates to be automatic, it just does not work. You must manually go and "get updates" for each PC that you have the software installed on as well as the server.

This has happened to all the QB Versions I have used over the past 10 years.
When I do mention this to QB Support (every year aft the new version is released) they always claim oh that should not happen!!

It is very very thorough, which at times for a small business can be overkill. But in the end it is always better to have more data than not enough - especially when it comes to your money. Also, sometimes the bank feeds can get glitchy.
